If you’re unfamiliar wit Invisalign or you’d just like to learn a little more about it, we encourage you to look through our Invisalign FAQ we’ve provided for you.

What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign is known as the alternative to braces. Instead of using fixed metal wires and brackets to straighten teeth, Invisalign uses plastic, removable aligners.

How Often Should I Wear My Aligners?

You should wear your aligners for about 22 hours a day. You’re allowed to take them out for eating, cleaning your teeth, or any special occasions.

Will Invisalign Restrict What I Can Eat?

Unlike with braces, you can continue to eat the same foods as you did before, just as long as you take your aligners out before eating. Remember to brush your teeth before putting your aligners back in though.

Will the Aligners Affect My Speech?

Just like with any other orthodontic treatment, there will be a brief period of time where you’ll have to get used to them and adjust. However, the more you speak with your aligners in, the quicker you’ll adjust.

Is Invisalign Uncomfortable?

There will be some minor pressure for just about a day or two after each initial insertion. This isn’t anything to be worried about though; this is just a sign that your teeth are starting to move toward their intended positions.

Can I Still Chew Gum?

We recommend that you remove your aligners before chewing gum as they can sometimes get stuck to the aligners.

Can I Smoke with the Aligners In?

We strongly discourage this as smoking can stain the aligners.

How Often Will I Have to See the Orthodontist?

Typically, your regular office visits will be about five to six weeks apart, but this may change depending on your circumstances. These visits are to ensure that the orthodontic treatment is progressing as planned.

Will I Need to Wear Retainers After My Treatment?

All orthodontic patients are required to wear retainers after their treatment. You’ll need to wear retainers at night for an indefinite amount of time. The retention phase is a critical stage as it will help maintain the new positioning of your teeth.

How Long Will the Treatment Take?

The treatment time will depend upon the severity of the orthodontic problems. However, Invisalign will generally last between six and 18 months.

Can Invisalign Work for Kids?

Yes, it can be suitable for kids just as long as their teeth, including their second molars, have grown in completely.

Are There Conditions That Will Exclude Me from Invisalign?

Unfortunately, not every patient is a candidate for Invisalign. If you’re interested in seeing if Invisalign is suitable for you, it’s important to visit your Invisalign provider.
